The Lagos Police Command confirmed the murder of Augusta Osedion Onuwabuagbe, a 21-year-old undergraduate, and the removal of her genitals inside her lover's Ajah apartment.
The recovery of a suspected confessional note left behind by the 26-year-old loverboy, Benjamin alias Killaboi, who is currently on the run, was also confirmed.
Detectives from Ajah Police Station were said to have forced open the door to Augusta's apartment in Oral Estate, Ikota, Ajah, after her mother reported her inability to reach her daughter.
On July 11, the woman received a call from her daughter, a student at Lead University in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying she had a disagreement with her lover and would be going to his house to settle it.
According to sources, the woman attempted to reconcile them but was unable to reach either of them on their phones and had to locate Augusta's roommate, who drove her to Benjamin's residence in Ajah on Saturday, July 15.
When the women arrived at the residence, it was discovered that they saw her daughter's Mercedes Benz C30 outside of Benjamin's house and knocked several times on the door but received no response.
They were said to have gone to the estate's security post to complain, but were directed to the Police Station so that the cops could come and open the door.
Augusta's mother, it was learned, went to the police station and filed a complaint, prompting the Divisional Attorney to investigate.
He confirmed that a note had been recovered from the scene and stated that efforts were being made to apprehend the suspect.
Meanwhile, Benjamin, it was reported, took to Instagram to confess to accidentally stabbing Augusta during an argument, adding that he fled the scene out of fear.
In a series of rambling Instagram posts, the suspect denied allegations that he used his lover for ritual purposes, insisting she was the love of his life and they had been together for two years.
He claimed that those who painted the ritual narrative were manipulating the situation, and he urged those who were abusing his late lover to stop because she had done nothing wrong. He stated that the issue in their relationship was toxicity, and that they had an issue on July 11 and had agreed to meet the next day to discuss it, but things worsened.
He claimed he had suicidal thoughts since then and was ready to die, turn himself in, and provide closure to her family.
"I got into an argument with my girlfriend, which (led to) a fight, and I mistakenly stabbed her and ran away from fear, and I've been suicidal since then," he wrote. I want to end my life now because I've lost the one I adored. I want to do the right thing and surrender. I'll gladly end it now by paying with my life.
"I failed myself, I failed my mother, and I failed my family."
