Niger State Governor Umar Bago said his government was in talks with bandits to find a friendly solution to the unrest in the state.
According to news, on responding to reporters' questions yesterday, during a visit to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi, in Abuja, the Governor said his administration is pardoning the robbers so they can lay down their arms.
He said:
“We are in discussions with them to find a way to resolve the matter amicably. However, we are ready for battle. We discuss with them, not negotiation; Talk to them so they can get out, lay down their weapons and reintegrate into society. It was an open call.
According to him, government works and some of this is not for public consumption; some of the things that security agencies do are not things to say in front of the camera.
He also emphasized that the President cares deeply and works around the clock to ensure peace returns to Nigeria and he will spare no effort to make sure that happens.
Bago highlighted that local entities are integrating with the president's programs and projects.
Niger has 8.6 million hectares of land, including 6,000 square kilometers of arable land and four hydroelectric dams. This represents 10% of the total area of Nigeria. Therefore, it is ready and positioned for agriculture in terms of livestock, farming, aquaculture and other means of ensuring food security.
Earlier, the Minister of Information told the Governor, that President Tinubu's administration is focusing on eight priority areas, from security, food security, education, health, job creation and economic recovery.
He recounted that Tinubu had his first meeting with the new Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, in which he ordered a march for ministers to ensure that priority areas were taken up by the people.
