A Rising singer by name Akezue Samuel Francis, known by his stage name TB Sam, has opened a can of worms, revealing why most emerging music artists are frustrated with the industry or forced to indulge in the whims of famous record label owners.
TB Sam made the shocking revelation during a chat with our reporter(Vanguard)earlier this week.
While struggling to stay in the country music industry, TB Sam, who recently released his single "Medicine," recalls meeting record label bosses who wanted to sleep with him before they signed him to their label. But he refused to accept their ungodly request.
He says:
“I don't see any brands that suit my preferences. One day, a record label (anonymous name) contacted me but I refused to become one of their subscribers. I don't like their grooming style. What they proposed was morally dishonest and I couldn't accept it because I wanted to be successful in music.
“I told them that even if I couldn't do it myself, I wouldn't come to them. That's because I can't give what I can't give. They love promoting artists, but they will ask you to mingle with your peers. I don't do that. Music has many costs. And I don't see myself sleeping with my neighbors. That's why I decided to become an independent artist.
TB Sam confirmed that some promotional artists are gay. “They were definitely gay,” he said, recalling meetings with gay label owners.
“I met them when they were holding a Nigerian fashion show at Golden Tulip, Festac. After the show, a white man and a black man came up to me and said they wanted to sign me to their label. But first, I have to mingle with them every night and make a bid(price),then they would signed me under their label. I promised to give them feedback but I never did because I didn't care about their request. I personally know that I wouldn't do that," the singer said.
TB Sam said his experience was not different from that faced by other emerging artist groups in the country who bid on these promoters on their merits. “Most emerging bands dance to the beat of their promoters because they want to explode in any way possible. But I don't despair because I know that one day my songs will open doors for me,” the singer added.
