The transfer window is closed until January with the usual flurry of big deals and even some notable moves that haven't happened.
Liverpool and Manchester United have stepped up their efforts significantly while Tottenham cannot resist their traditional foray into the market late in the game.
In moves that didn't materialize, Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad failed with a £150m bid for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, while Fulham's Joao Palhinha passed the medical examination at Bayern Munich but had to return to Craven Cottage after the transfer failed.
So what are the big questions that need to be answered after the dust settles on another busy deadline day?
Will the Salah story last? Liverpool have made it clear that Salah is not for sale by immediately rejecting an offer that could bring them £150m from Al-Ittihad.
The club's position is that the 31-year-old is untouchable and the matter is considered over at Anfield - but complicating things may be that it is not considered finished in Saudi Arabia.
And with the Saudi transfer window only closing on September 7, there was immediately a speculation that Al-Ittihad could be back with an offer of close to £200m in an attempt to snap up Liverpool.
Liverpool have no intention of blinking as they won't be able to reinvest any funds until January at the earliest and manager Jurgen Klopp has also made it clear that the Egyptian is outstanding, who has scored 187 goals after 308 games for the club.
Salah has remained silent, but his agent Ramy Abbas Issa wrote in a social media post on August 7, when speculation of Saudi interest began:
“Mohamed remains committed to Liverpool. If we were considering him leaving Liverpool this year, we wouldn't have renewed our contract last summer."
There's no sign that things have changed - but that may not stop Al-Ittihad from making another, even more appealing, offer for Salah. This will be the biggest blow to the Saudi Pro League and further proof of an existential threat to the Premier League.
