TRUMPS FORMER LAWYER PLEADS GUILTY TO CHARGES ON GEORGIA ELECTION

Former attorney Sidney Powell, previously associated with Donald Trump, has admitted to six charges related to her involvement in the Georgia election interference case.

Powell, who had propagated baseless claims about the 2020 election results, has now reached an agreement with prosecutors and will provide testimony during the trial.

This case involves 19 co-defendants, including the former President himself. Powell's charges revolved around a conspiracy to intentionally interfere with election duties.

As part of her plea deal, Powell will serve a six-year probation sentence and is obligated to provide truthful testimony in upcoming trials.

This is considered a significant victory for the prosecution, given her significant role in Donald Trump's efforts to challenge Georgia's election results.

The agreement also necessitates Powell to provide a proffer, which is essentially a detailed verbal account of her involvement in the case. She must also pay a fine and compose an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia.

Powell entered her guilty plea in a downtown Atlanta courtroom just one day before her trial was scheduled to commence.

Prosecutors have accused her of being part of a group of Trump officials and supporters who allegedly breached the election system in rural Coffee County, Georgia, in January 2021.

Their goal was to convince officials and voters that the election had been manipulated against Mr. Trump.

Specifically, Powell was charged with hiring a forensics team and sending them to Coffee County to illicitly access government computers in order to examine voter data.

Prosecutors assert that she conspired to tamper with voting machines, electronic ballots, and voter data, as well as to remove ballots from a polling place and obstruct an election worker from carrying out her duties.

Sidney Powell, a former lawyer for Trump, was one of the most prominent and vocal proponents of Trump's unfounded claims regarding the 2020 election.

Notably, she participated in a press conference in November 2020 with other Trump lawyers, during which she made unsubstantiated allegations that U.S. voting machines, particularly those from Dominion Voting Systems, could be manipulated to alter votes from President Trump to President Joe Biden.
